Title: Dark Waters
Information about painting: Oil on canvas, 200 × 150 cm
Dark Waters explores the liminal space of becoming sparked by an encounter with the myth of Leda and the Swan at a museum in Crete. I am fascinated by swan’s identity, it is an entity of exquisite beauty, yet fundamentally alien. I am intrigued how the swan turns up in different stories to represent ideas of protection, transformation, freedom, and disguise, from the haunting trials in Roald Dahl’s work to the profound shifts in Hans Christian Andersen’s tales. Ultimately, I use these animal shapes as vessels for human feelings, ideas and thoughts about life and how we live it.
